Ch-ch-ch-changes

Yes, there have been changes. New look, new title, even a new url.

Words Apart, journey of a wannabe writer @ marcfalber.co.uk

It’s been a few weeks since my last post so I should have lots to say but we’re still in, albeit a slightly eased, lockdown so don’t expect to be regaled with tales of epic journeys to adventures unless you count forays into the garden.

One significant change though is that, as I come to the end of my two months of furlough, as of tomorrow…………….I am on another two months of furlough. Mixed feelings here. Its great, another couple of months off work with lots of time to write but, conversely, I miss my job. I miss working with the people I work with. Well, most of them. In the event that any of my colleagues are reading this, I’m kidding, I love you all.

Speaking of writing, after all, this is the raison d’être of this blog, this is where the biggest changes have occurred. If you remember this from my last post:

  1. Create  your environment
  2. Create a plot
  3. Create and build your characters

Well I’ve:

  1. Changed my environment
  2. Changed my plot
  3. Changed my characters

I started writing this novel because I wanted a challenge and my word (see what I did there?) is it a challenge. The biggest discovery I’ve made is that prose is easy, I can ramble on with the best of them (but you already knew that) but plotting a novel is where the real challenge is. I’m currently on the third incarnation having gone back to the drawing (or should that be writing) board twice!

The good news is that I am feeling so much better about the direction in which the current incarnation is heading. The characters feel so much more real and the plot so much more feasible. That’s not to say there won’t be any more changes but I’m quietly confident that they will be only minor ones.

As ever, stay safe people. It’s gonna be a brave new world when we come out the other side.
